Kintsugi Workshop Santa Monica ARTime BARRO
The course of this global pandemic has left many feeling shattered and desperately searching for distraction.
If you’re not familiar with Kintsugi, the more commonly known term for kintsukuroi, describes the process of mending broken pottery with golden, sometimes silver, lacquer. Derived from the small Japanese words kin meaning golden, and tsugi meaning joining, kintsugi is fundamentally about ‘beautifully mending a broken thing.’ It is this precise ethos that has made kintsugi so popular of late. Though results are fragile and empty, this could be your silver, or rather gold, lining.
The Kintsugi Workshop: Discover the history and philosophy of kintsugi to repair ceramics using gold dust, and patience as we guide you through every step of the way. Learn how to create a restoration pottery piece using the gold relief technique and the gold flush technique. You will first break your already prepped dry ceramic and then piece it back together with gold lining.
All materials are provided during the workshop. No previous experience is required to take the course, all you need is the curiosity to learn this ancient art.
We ask you to join us in being fully present by putting away all your electronic devices during the workshop. Also, there are no transactions in the space.
