Charles engaged in wine growing courses at UC Davis and sought counsel from some of the best vintners throughout California after discovering in 2004 that his newly bought property could be ideal for grape growing.

One of the pioneers of Malibu winemaking, long time Malibu resident Jim Palmer began growing wine grapes in Western Malibu and has been making wine since 1997.
